WEEK 7 // DAY 5
SENT TOGETHER
Paul ends this section by calling believers to submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. This is one of the clearest signs of Spirit-filled community. The Spirit does not only shape our private devotion or our gathered worship. He reshapes the way we treat one another. Mutual submission means we lay down self-centeredness for the good of the body. We listen before defending, honor others’ needs, make room for people who are different from us, apologize when we are wrong, and choose unity over ego.
This kind of humility flows directly from Jesus. He did not use His authority to protect His own comfort. He humbled Himself, served, and gave His life for us. When the Spirit fills the church, He forms us in that same pattern. Submission is not inferiority or passivity. It is love shaped by the cross. We give ourselves to one another because Jesus gave Himself for us.
Acts 2 gives us a picture of what this kind of Spirit-filled life can look like in community. The early believers devoted themselves to teaching, fellowship, breaking bread, and prayer. They practiced generosity, shared meals with glad hearts, praised God, and became a visible witness to the saving work of Jesus. They were not isolated spiritual consumers. They were a unified people on mission together.
This matters because the Holy Spirit leads us on mission together. Individual Christians are not God’s only plan for growing His kingdom. The church—the body of believers—is central to God’s mission in the world. When we surrender together to the Spirit, we become a people whose shared life bears witness to Jesus. Our presence, worship, generosity, humility, prayer, and love all become part of the testimony.
As this series ends, the invitation is simple and profound: become a church that together says, “Holy Spirit, we surrender to You. We depend on You. We are open to Your leading. Help us respond.” Life begins with the Spirit, and the Spirit forms a people. Today, ask how your life can help your church become a clearer witness to Jesus.
