Where Life Begins - Week 7 Day 2

WEEK 7 // DAY 2

CAREFUL WITH THE TIME

Paul calls the church to careful living. That does not mean fearful living. It means attentive, wise, intentional living. Spirit-filled people are not careless about how they use their days, their words, their opportunities, or their relationships. They understand that time is a gift from God, and they seek to live in a way that honors Him.

This is a needed word because many of us are hurried through life. We rush from one thing to the next, often moving so quickly that we rarely stop to ask what God is doing in the middle of our ordinary days. We can become busy with good things and still miss the opportunities God is placing in front of us. We can move through work, family, school, church, and relationships with very little awareness of the Spirit’s guidance.

Paul says to make the most of every opportunity because the days are evil. In other words, the world around us is not neutral. It is constantly forming us. Hurry, distraction, comfort, comparison, fear, entertainment, and ambition are all discipling us in different directions. If we are not paying attention, we drift. Very few people reject Jesus dramatically in a single moment. More often, we slowly become shaped by whatever fills our attention.

This is why we need the Holy Spirit. We cannot live wisely in our own strength. The Spirit teaches us to notice what matters. He helps us see people we might overlook, opportunities we might miss, and decisions we might rush through. He reminds us that Jesus is Lord not only over our Sundays, but over our schedules, responsibilities, interruptions, and relationships.

Jesus lived with perfect attentiveness to the Father. He was never hurried in the way we are hurried, yet He was always faithful with the time and opportunities given to Him. The Spirit now forms that kind of attentiveness in us. Today, you do not need to live frantic or distracted. You can slow down enough to ask, “Holy Spirit, how do You want me to honor God with this day?”

Reflection Questions:

  • What does Paul tell believers to be careful about in this passage?
  • What does it mean to make the most of every opportunity?
  • Where do hurry or distraction keep you from noticing the Spirit’s leading?
  • How can you honor God with your time today?

Journaling Prompt:

Take time to write through your normal daily rhythms, and reflect on where the Spirit may be inviting more wisdom, attention, or obedience.
Prayer Starter: Holy Spirit, help me live wisely today. Teach me to notice the opportunities You give and to honor Jesus with my time, attention, and choices.
