Where Life Begins - Week 5 Day 4

WEEK 5 // DAY 4

BEGIN WHERE YOU ARE

Jesus gives His disciples a mission that moves outward. They will be His witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. This pattern matters. The mission does not begin in a distant place. It begins where they already are. Jerusalem comes first. The gospel will move outward to the nations, but it begins in the ordinary and immediate places where the disciples are already located.

This helps us understand purpose in a very practical way. Sometimes we imagine that mission only counts if it happens somewhere far away or in a dramatic way. We think of missionaries crossing oceans, pastors preaching sermons, or leaders standing before crowds. Those callings matter, but Acts 1 reminds us that witness begins locally. The Spirit sends people into the places they already live, work, learn, shop, play, and build relationships.

Your “Jerusalem” may be your home. It may be your workplace, school, neighborhood, gym, ballfield, coffee shop, or extended family. It may be the person you see every week but rarely notice. It may be the neighbor whose name you still do not know, the coworker who is carrying quiet pain, or the family member who has drifted far from faith. Purpose does not always require a new location. Sometimes it begins with new attention in the place you already are.

This is both comforting and challenging. It is comforting because you do not have to wait for a different season of life to be useful to God. You do not have to wait until you feel fully trained, confident, or spiritually impressive. The Spirit can use your ordinary life as a place of witness. But it is challenging because it means the mission of Jesus is not optional for the people of Jesus. Spirit-filled people are sent people, and the sending often begins close to home.

Today, ask the Spirit to help you notice your Jerusalem. Who is already near you? Where has God already placed you? What relationships might He be inviting you to enter more intentionally? Witness does not begin when you have everything figured out. It begins when you become available to the Spirit where you already are.

Reflection Questions:

  • What places does Jesus name in Acts 1:8?
  • Why do you think Jesus begins with Jerusalem before the ends of the earth?
  • Who or where is your “Jerusalem” right now?
  • What is one intentional step of witness you can take where you already are?

Journaling Prompt:

Take time to write a list of the people and places God has already placed in your life, and reflect on where the Spirit may be inviting greater attentiveness.
Prayer Starter: Holy Spirit, open my eyes to the people already around me. Help me begin where I am and bear witness to Jesus in ordinary, faithful ways.
