Where Life Begins - Week 5 Day 3

WEEK 5 // DAY 3

YOU WILL BE MY WITNESSES

The disciples ask Jesus a question about timing. They want to know when the kingdom will be restored. Their question is understandable because they long for God to make things right. But Jesus redirects them. He does not give them a timeline to manage. He gives them the Holy Spirit and a calling: “You will be my witnesses.” In other words, they are not given control over the future, but they are given purpose in the present.

This is important because many of us would rather have control than calling. We want to know exactly what God is doing, when He will act, how things will unfold, and what outcomes we can expect. But Jesus often does not give us those details. Instead, He gives us His Spirit and sends us to bear witness. He shifts our focus from speculation to participation, from managing the future to faithfully representing Him today.

A witness is not someone who has to impress people. A witness is not someone who has to know everything or win every argument. A witness simply tells the truth about what they have seen, heard, and come to know. This means your calling is not to perform for Jesus, but to point to Jesus. The Spirit empowers testimony, not self-promotion. Your life and words are meant to help others see Him more clearly.

That should encourage you if witness feels intimidating. Fear does not disqualify you from being used by God. The disciples themselves were ordinary people who had experienced confusion, fear, failure, and weakness. Yet Jesus promised that the Spirit would give them power. Courage grows as the Spirit fills ordinary people. You may not feel ready, but readiness is not the same as dependence. The Spirit meets us as we obey.

Today, ask the Spirit not only for better opportunities, but for holy boldness. It is possible to have open doors and still remain silent because comfort feels safer. Pray for courage to speak of Jesus with humility, love, and clarity. You are not called to impress people. You are called to bear witness to the One who is alive

Reflection Questions:

  • What does Jesus promise the disciples before they become witnesses?
  • What does it mean to be a witness to Jesus?
  • Where does fear keep you from speaking or living openly for Jesus?
  • How can you ask the Spirit for boldness today?

Journaling Prompt:

Journal about what makes witnessing feel intimidating to you, and reflect on how the Spirit’s power changes the way you think about that fear.
Prayer Starter: Holy Spirit, give me courage to bear witness to Jesus with humility and love. Help me point people to Him instead of worrying about impressing them.
