WEEK 1 // DAY 1
STANDING AT THE EDGE
There are moments in life when you realize the old season is over, but the new one has not fully begun. You are not where you used to be, but you are not yet where you are going. That is where Joshua stands at the beginning of this story. Moses, the leader who had guided Israel for forty years, is dead. The wilderness is behind them. The promised land is ahead of them. The Jordan River is in front of them. Everything is changing.
God does not pretend the loss is small. He does not rush past the grief. He says, “Moses my servant is dead.” God names the reality. But He does not let the loss have the final word. He says, “Now then…get ready.” In other words, “This season has ended, but My promise has not ended. This leader is gone, but My presence is not gone. The past has changed, but I am still calling you forward.”
You may know what it feels like to stand at the edge of something new. Maybe a relationship has changed. Maybe your health has changed. Maybe your family is in a new season. Maybe you are stepping into a responsibility that feels bigger than you. Maybe Jesus is calling you to obey in a place where you would rather stay comfortable. You might be waiting until you feel ready, certain, confident, or fearless. But Joshua’s story reminds you that courage does not begin when every feeling is settled. Courage begins when you trust that God is present in the transition.
This is where Joshua points us to Jesus. Jesus stepped into the greatest transition of all. He entered our broken world, carried our sin, went to the cross, entered death, and rose again. Because of Jesus, loss does not get the final word. Fear does not get the final word. Death does not get the final word. The risen Jesus meets you in the in-between places and calls you forward with Him.
Today, you do not need to see the whole path. You do not need to know every detail of what comes next. You are invited to listen for the voice of God in the middle of your real life. He is not asking you to pretend the past did not matter. He is inviting you to trust that His promise still stands. The next step may feel uncertain, but you do not take it alone. The God who called Joshua forward is the God who calls you forward in Jesus.
Reflection Questions:
- What major transition is happening in Joshua 1:1–3?
- What does God’s command to “get ready” reveal about His ongoing promise?
- Where do you feel like you are standing between an old season and a new one?
- What is one faithful step God may be inviting you to take today?
Journaling Prompt:
Take time to name the transition you are facing. Write honestly about what has changed, what feels uncertain, and how Jesus may be inviting you to trust His presence in the middle of it.Prayer Starter: Jesus, meet me in the places where life feels uncertain. I invite you to give me courage for the next faithful step.
