THE FAITHFUL STEP IN FRONT OF YOU

Esther does not know how her obedience will turn out. She understands the law. She knows approaching the king without an invitation could cost her life. Her words, “If I perish, I perish,” do not mean that fear has suddenly disappeared. They reveal that she has decided faithfulness matters more than certainty.

After fasting, Esther puts on her royal robes and enters the king’s court. This is the difference between passive optimism and active hope. Passive optimism waits for circumstances to improve. Active hope asks, “What faithful step can I take while trusting God with the outcome?” Esther prays, prepares, and then moves.

Many of us want certainty before obedience. You may be willing to invite someone if you know they will say yes. You may be willing to serve if you know you will succeed. You may be ready to apologize if you know the other person will respond well. You may speak about Jesus if you are guaranteed to have every answer. But God rarely shows you the full outcome before calling you to take the next step.

Faithfulness is not the same as certainty. Faithfulness means doing what God has made clear while trusting Him with what remains unknown. Esther cannot control the king, but she can enter the court. She cannot guarantee the rescue of her people, but she can use the opportunity God has given her. She takes the step that is hers to take.

Jesus demonstrates faithful obedience perfectly. He knew the cross would bring suffering, rejection, and death. Yet He willingly obeyed the Father and gave Himself for our salvation. His obedience did not end in defeat. God raised Him from the dead, and through Jesus’ victory, all who trust Him receive forgiveness and eternal life. Your hope rests in His faithful obedience before it is expressed in your own.

Because Jesus has already secured the ultimate victory, your obedience does not have to carry the pressure of saving the world. You are free to take the small step God has placed in front of you. Perhaps you cannot repair an entire relationship, but you can initiate one honest conversation. You cannot remove someone’s grief, but you can listen. You cannot meet every need, but you can serve one person. You cannot guarantee a response, but you can offer an invitation.
