STONES FOR THE NEXT GENERATION

After Israel crosses the Jordan, God tells Joshua to have twelve men take twelve stones from the river and set them up as a memorial. The stones were not random decorations. They were witnesses. They were reminders. They were physical signs of God’s faithfulness. When future generations asked, “What do these stones mean?” the people were to tell the story: “This is where God brought us through. This is where God made a way. This is where God kept His promise.”

God did not only want His people to cross into the promised land. He wanted them to remember. He wanted them to become storytellers of grace. He wanted the next generation to know they were not standing on their own achievements. They were standing in a story of God’s faithfulness.

This matters for your life because you are forgetful. We all are. We forget that God has provided before. We forget that God has carried us through. We forget that He has forgiven us, answered prayers, met us in grief, sustained us in weakness, and used small acts of obedience in ways we did not expect. Remembering is not nostalgia. Remembering is fuel for faith. When you remember what God has done, you become more able to trust Him with what is still ahead.

Children and students do not only need events, programs, and activities. They need people who can tell the story of God’s faithfulness. They need adults who show up, pray, serve, welcome, listen, and point them to Jesus.

Jesus demonstrates God’s faithfulness. At the cross, we see that God did not abandon us in our sin. At the empty tomb, we see that death does not get the final word. In the gift of the Spirit, we see that God still empowers ordinary people to live as witnesses of His victory. The cross and resurrection are the center of the story we pass on. Your story may feel small, but when it points to Jesus, it becomes a stone of remembrance. It helps someone else see that God is faithful. The victory we are after is bigger than a cup, bigger than a camp, and bigger than a summer. It is the victory of Jesus taking root in ordinary lives and being passed from one generation to the next.
