WEEK 6 // DAY 4
STAND FIRM TOGETHER
Read 1 Peter 5:6-11
Peter’s warning about the roaring lion is followed by an important reminder: believers throughout the world are experiencing suffering too. That does not make your pain smaller, but it does confront one of suffering’s most dangerous lies: “You are alone.” Hard seasons can turn your world inward. Your problem begins to feel unique, your fear feels isolating, and eventually you may assume that nobody understands. Peter reminds suffering Christians that they are part of a much larger family. Faith was never meant to be practiced in isolation.
Isolation often makes us more vulnerable. When you are tired, discouraged, or overwhelmed, you need other believers who can help you remember what is true. You need someone who can say, “God has not abandoned you,” when circumstances make that difficult to believe. You need people who can pray when your own words feel empty, listen without trying to fix everything, challenge you when fear is controlling you, and remind you that Jesus is still trustworthy. Sometimes one of God’s primary ways of caring for you is through the presence of his people.
Jesus created this kind of community. He did not simply rescue isolated individuals and send each one on a private spiritual journey. Through his death and resurrection, Jesus created a people—a family—who belong to one another because they belong to him. Earlier in 1 Peter, believers are described as living stones being built together. That means your suffering is never merely “your thing.” There are moments when you need to carry someone else’s burden, and there are moments when humility means allowing someone else to help carry yours. Both are acts of obedience.
Someone else’s difficulty does not invalidate yours, and you do not need to say, “Other people have it worse, so I shouldn’t be struggling.” Peter’s point is not comparison; it is connection. You are not the only Christian who has wondered where God is. You are not the only person who has felt weak, frustrated, afraid, or exhausted. And you are not the only one learning to surrender what cannot be controlled. God has given you brothers and sisters who are also learning to trust him one day at a time.
So resist the instinct to disappear when life gets difficult. Send the text. Ask for prayer. Tell someone what is actually happening. Show up even when you do not feel strong. Community does not remove every storm, but it helps us stand in the storm without forgetting who God is. Shared suffering does not make pain disappear, but it can keep pain from becoming a private world where fear and lies are the only voices you hear. The enemy wants suffering to convince you that you are alone. Jesus has made you part of a people. Stand firm together.
Reflection Questions:
- What reminder does Peter give believers about the suffering of other Christians?
- Why can isolation make difficult seasons spiritually dangerous?
- Who helps you remember what is true when you are struggling?
- What step can you take today toward deeper Christian community?
Journaling Prompt:
Write the names of two or three people God has used to strengthen your faith. Consider one person you can invite more honestly into what you are carrying right now.Prayer Starter: Jesus, thank you that you have not called me to stand alone. Give me humility to receive support and attentiveness to strengthen others who need encouragement.
