YOUR FAITH AND HOPE ARE IN GOD

Peter closes this section by turning our attention completely toward Jesus. Following Jesus is not ultimately about becoming more disciplined, moral, or spiritually impressive. Everything Peter has said about hope, obedience, holiness, and redemption rests on who Jesus is and what God has done through him.

Jesus was known before the creation of the world and revealed “for your sake.” The cross was not God improvising after everything else failed. Jesus has always been at the center of God’s redemptive plan. Before you ever knew God, God knew what your salvation would cost. Before humanity understood the depth of its need, God’s purpose was already moving toward Jesus.

And Peter makes it personal: Christ was revealed for your sake. Jesus entered our world for us. He took on flesh for us. He walked among broken people for us. He suffered for us. He gave his life for us. The God Peter calls believers to trust is not distant from human struggle. In Jesus, God stepped into our story and gave himself to rescue us.

But the story did not end at the cross. God raised Jesus from the dead and glorified him. That is why our obedience can be rooted in confidence rather than fear. The way of Jesus sometimes involves sacrifice. It sometimes asks you to choose faithfulness over convenience, forgiveness over retaliation, generosity over self-protection, or truth over approval. But the resurrection tells you where the way of Jesus ultimately leads: life.

Jesus trusted the Father through suffering, and the Father raised him from the dead. Death did not get the final word. The grave did not get the final word. The people who rejected Jesus did not get the final word. God did.

Perhaps you have been trying to place faith and hope in yourself—your ability to make the right decision, manage every outcome, keep everyone happy, or hold everything together. Your faith and hope are not ultimately in your ability to obey perfectly. They are in God.

That is freeing. You will not always know exactly what to do. You will sometimes struggle. You will sometimes need to repent and begin again. But the One leading you is faithful.

Trust him. Listen to His voice. Then take the next obedient step. The resurrection assures you that wherever Jesus faithfully leads, his way ultimately leads toward life.
